After a long and delicate restoration process, we are extremely proud to open the doors to our home to all who would like to visit us, spend time in comfort and serenity while experiencing a well-deserved rest in the heart of a small Tuscan village.
This project was born in Switzerland from OUR need to change our lives and dedicate our time to our two greatest passions, hospitality and the countryside. What better opportunity than here at this beautiful location.
The Name, the History and the Village
L’Antica Pergola di San Giusto B&B’s name derives from a street called Pergolone Street, as there was indeed a pergola covered with vines all along the passage. Today, the pergola is no longer present, with only the old stone wall remaining with its merlons that once supported the timber of the climbing grapevines.
Until the 1950’s the vines were attended to with care and the harvesting of the grapes was done using a cart which was at the height of the bunches on the vines. This has now become an unforgettable memory for the elderly residents of the village.
The Village of San Giusto di Compito is located in the area known as ‘del compitese’, a focal point of the Lucchesia for its outstanding extra virgin olive oil.
The village was formed on the slopes of the Montecuccoli hills at 300mt around the church of St Giusto in 983, 1051 and 1195 and as it was reconstructed over the years, it has lost all its primitive characteristics. In the appraisal of 1260, the church proved to be independent from Pieve di Compito and historically it was called St Giusto of Massa Macinaia. The church, with only one nave, was rebuilt in 1862 and restored in 1914.
The area of the ‘compitese’ which extends to many districts within the Capannori Council is also noted for its camellia plants, which have found ideal conditions in the area and every March there is a festival called the ‘Antique Camellias of the Lucchesia’ which commemorates the beauty of the plant.
Our B&B has six light-filled rooms, all with ensuite bathrooms, air conditioning, satellite TV, complimentary toiletries, hairdryer and fresh linen. You will find a pleasant setting, furnished with respect to the traditional Lucchese countryside along with some modern touches. Elevator access to all floors.
The so-called Pisa Mountains are our pride and joy, with well-marked walking trails, its unspoiled nature and walks for all abilities. The Alpino Trekking Club manages these trails so you can discover and request information on day pass tours with guides including mountain bike riding. We would be more than happy to help you as the Capannori Council has well over 180km of marked trails!
